Summer has set in India and the soaring temperatures are draining us out.  This season, which is especially famous for its harshness, is already forcing us to stay indoors. No doubt you’ll be spending the majority of your time indoors now, and making your home summer ready is the best way to ensure that your abode stays cool and comfortable.

So, what is it that you could do to make your homes summer ready and enjoy the best of the season without feeling the heat? Read on to know more!

Open up your windows

Not sure where to start? Opening your windows might be the simplest way to let the breeze in.  With winters, sleet and rain out of the way, it’s time to clean your windows, and eliminate unhealthy mould– both inside and out.

Clean the dust, mould or rust that has accumulated on your windows and grills. Simply wipe the dust with a microfibre or paper cloth before you begin with other things. And whilst you are at it, don’t forget your window frames.  The inner window frames are easily susceptible to becoming clogged with dirt and debris.

Take an old toothbrush to loosen any dirt, dust and cobwebs that might be stuck in the frame, or vacuum them clean.

Look around for mould growth

Mould spores thrive well during summer, because of the rising temperatures and humidity. Inspect your home and surroundings for a build-up of water, and moulds. Do not forget to clean your washing machine after every use and leave the doors open for a while. Ensure that your bathroom is well-ventilated, and check sinks and corners for leakages.

Summers are also the perfect time to waterproof your home and repair any leakages before the rains come your way!

Give your décor a cool makeover

Begin with replacing the heavy upholstery, curtains and rugs, with bright and light ones. Add some breezy organza curtains, throw shrugs, cotton bright cushion covers and voile; your house just had a makeover!

You can add a layer of dark-coloured curtains that can help keep the excessive sun away and keep your room cooler.

Open your space to light and air

Remove heavy partitions, declutter your rooms and open up the space, to allow the breeze to sweep down in your home every day. The more open and clean the space is the cooler it will look and feel.

Add some life to your garden

Now that the winters have gone, it’s time to breathe in a new lease of life to your greens and get your garden ready for the summer season. Clean your garden area of any dead leaves, remove weeds, prune your bushes and plants, and keep them well-watered. Summer is the perfect season for bright flowers to bloom. So if your garden is a little bare, consider adding some shrubs and florals that are available all year long.

You can also add some indoor plants to your living room or bedroom for a breather in your space. They will add some cool freshness inside the home to soothe our minds and soul. They also amp up the interiors and give a breezy vibe.

Create a hideout in your balcony

Add some personal touches to your balcony and you have a truly stunning space to relax in. Invest in some hanging chairs, put on a few string outdoor lights, add a few cushions, and you have your personal hideout to enjoy the evening breeze, sunsets and some coffee!

With a few easy steps and changes, your home and outdoor space are all ready for the beautiful, balmy days ahead.
